Details

The Gaiwan, used for the infusion of tea leaves, is a form that goes back to Ming Dynasty China.  After the loose tea is infused with hot water, the lid allows the tea to steep sufficiently.  The tea can then be decanted using the lid to keep back the tea leaves.
