This is a classic English pitcher form, sometimes referred to as a "baluster jug". This rich amber glaze contains wood ash, which makes it flow at high temperatures. I glazed this one with some room at the bottom to allow the glaze to flow, and still leave a small portion that could show the natural clay with soda glazing.
